- O'Byrne's study is of the Anglo-Irish scribe Nicholas Bellewe (1423-74), who signed his work, irrefutably establishing identity. Bellewe isn't known to have copied MSS of Gower (whom O'Byrne does not mention) but he did produce both legal and literary documents using the different hands appropriate to each type. [RFY.
