Gower Bibliography

Dante and Gower.

Cook, Albert S. "Dante and Gower." Archiv für das Studium der neueren Sprachen und Literaturen 132 (1914), p. 395.

In the Latin summary of Gower's three works – appended to the CA – Gower speaks of the obligation he feels to pass on the knowledge he has received as a gift from God. Cook suggests that Gower may be indebted here to the beginning of Dante's De Monarchia, where the same language of laboring for posterity with one's God-given talents is used. [CvD]
